Andersonville, GA

Saturday, August 11, 2001 the group rode to the Yoder's Haus Restaurant in Montezuma, GA, then onto the Andersonville, GA Civil War Prison and Musuem.   More pictures to come.....

After a couple false starts the group finally left Dothan about 09:30.  Due to the hour time difference, this meant we could only stop once on the way over if we wanted to make it to the restaurant before 2:00 (closing time).  So we stopped in Cuthbert, GA for R&R (in this case that stands for Relief and Refreshment) and then on to the Yoder Haus.  As usual the food was great and the servings were oversized.  I've never heard anyone complain about leaving hungry and this was no exception. Apparently Gene ate so much that his bike refused to carry the extra load so while he and Steve worked off some pounds by taking a local area tour most of the group headed for Andersonville to tour the POW memorial and prison site.  After linking up back at the Yoder Haus we departed for home.  Anyone that's ever ridden with this group knows that we can't go a hundred miles without eating so John took a turn in Lumpkin, GA and stopped at Michelle's Restaurant so we could all eat again.  Lots of good stuff on the menu and we tried most of it.  As we departed Lumpkin it was starting to get dark and we knew we had better start for home.  The "group" ride actually ended up in Blakely where most of the members stopped for one more dessert at the Dairy Queen,  then with belly's full and gas tanks headed toward empty,  it was off in all directions as everybody headed for home in smaller groups.  All in all a pretty good day, lots of good friends, good food and plenty of riding!
